The Changing Role of Game Acting

With Uncharted 3 wrapped, the actors that gave Drake and many of his co-stars life have had a chance to rest and reflect on over five years embodying the same characters.

In that time, a lot has changed. Drake has emerged as one of gaming’s most convincing protagonists, whilst mo-cap and animation technology has vastly improved its ability to record every detail of an actor’s performance.

Nathan: Welcome to Haven. You like pancakes? We got good pancakes.
Audrey: What about lobster? Isn't Maine famous for lobster?
Nathan: I don't like lobster. I really like pancakes.
Audrey: Ah, I like the truck.
Nathan: Thanks. Had it since I was 19.
Audrey: How do you keep a car that long?
Nathan: I don't drive off cliffs.

Article about Haven from Xfilesnews.com

Nice article by Holly Simon from Xfilesnews.com!

As a huge X-files fan myself, it was great to read that Sam Ernst explained, “If The Twilight Zone was the mother ship for The X-Files, The X-Files is the mother ship for Haven.”
.
.
.
Over the summer, I had the pleasure of visiting the lovely community of Chester along the South Shore of Nova Scotia, to meet up with Anne-Marie Lapointe, publicist for the show. The town is initself a beautiful yet small community.  It's hardly a big even you see the production crew shoot around town.  Yet, as I found my way to Chester that afternoon as a fan as curious as I was; we spotted a few fans ourselves on the way back to the Hockey arena.

The South Shore of Nova Scotia is a beautiful area as the scenery in Haven exhibits, and is well worth to visit.  My best friend lives in Mahone Bay, the community about 15 minutes from Chester and I was lucky enough to spend a few days there with her.  It's definitely a beautiful and pristine area of Nova Scotia.

It’s several days before the end of production and it’s a beautiful hot summer day as I pull into the local hockey arena parking lot.  As I search for an empty spot in the parking lot, I find myself pulling opposite Nathan’s ’78 Ford Bronco, a landmark in many episodes of the popular television show.  It seems I’m forever destined to be a Ford fan, after years of the Ford Taurus in The X-files, and owning one myself in the Offline world.

TV Review: Silent Night

This is the most dramatic of Syfy’s three-in-one-night Christmas specials – it is the only one that got me a little misty-eyed – but it has plenty of light moments, and even more charm, and of course, a wee bit o’ the creepy. Like the Eureka and Warehouse 13 holiday episodes that precede it, it is a standalone offering with no reference to the events of the last one or two episodes of last season. Also like the other two holiday specials, there is a Christmas celebration that has no religious undertones but is instead a celebration of the importance of friends as family.

If you’re a fan of the show: You’ll join me in being so happy to be back in our favorite weird town. We get plenty of Audrey and Nathan and Duke, as they were before the developments at the end of the last season; the same is true of our favorite brothers who run the local newspaper. Quirky townspeople. Weird troubles. Some nice, kinda cool effects. Just what you’d hope for in an episode that is meant to become a classic.

Emily Rose Dishes on the Upcoming Syfy Holiday Episode of HAVEN

Based on the season finale of HAVEN, how does the Christmas episode fit into Audrey’s life and how things were left off?

EMILY:  It’s similar . . . It’s non-linear essentially. It’s not in order. It’s an out-of-time sort of episode. Essentially some of what I’ve said before about the episode is: it’s kind of like a little gift to the fans — kind of a holdover type of intermission episode where it’s kind of just its own little gem of an episode. So if you miss the characters and you’ve missed the world, you could hop into it. But we’re really hoping that the fans know not to put it in any kind of sequential order because it won’t pay anything off or reflect on anything. We kind of took all time references out of it so it would just be its own little episode.

Interview with Lucas Bryant

How can we get you to go on Twitter?

I've been asking myself that same question. I know I just got Emily and Erica to always forward me stuff - petitions to get me on there. And apparently this morning, I was named one of Perez Hilton's sexiest men on TV. I would just like to say yes, I have been telling everyone this for years and finally it came true. I know, I've always known that the Hiltons are a big fan of mine. So that makes perfect sense.

I just hope that it's not a typo, because it's, "Lucas Bryant, one of the most sexist men on TV," that would not be good. But, so I get the Twitter feeds if you will, I get information from the Twit machine. But no I have not done it yet. And I don't know, I'm still on the fence about it, I can't tell you what it's going to be that would make me take the plunge. I'm just... ...you know, I'm like a grandma.

Interview with Emily Rose

I was lucky enough to interview Emily Rose, Haven’s Audrey Parker, while she was in New York for New York Comic Con two weeks ago. For those who don’t know, Haven surrounds the mysterious “troubles” of fictional small town Haven, Maine. During season one, FBI agent Audrey Parker tracks a criminal to Haven, only to stay upon discovering her hidden links to its mysterious history. Throughout season two, the audience (and Audrey) discover the “troubles” are far greater than previously expected.

For fifteen minutes, after her NYCC panels, autograph sessions, and press room discussion, we chatted about Haven’s second season, its Christmas episode and what might happen next year.

HAVEN Exuberantly Celebrates its Third Season Renewal at NYCC 2011

Every once in a blue moon, the stars align and something miraculous happens.  In this case, HAVEN’s third season was announced simultaneously with its appearance at New York Comic-Con.  It was perfect timing as it allowed fans to celebrate face-to-face with the cast and creators of HAVEN.  So as NYCC embraced and showcased the supernatural sci-fi series for the first time, fans from around the globe raced to join in the festivities.

As limos arrived, fans streaked through the hallways, and security smiled as both the talent and fans strained to get a glimpse of each other, the air was filled with anticipation.  This was not just a day to celebrate; it was a day to revel in the mutual love-fest from both sides of the entertainment spectrum.  It is a curious symbiotic relationship, for entertainment needs both talent and an appreciative audience.  The most gifted writer or performer in the world is but a voice echoing in a forest without someone to watch and listen.  So when such an occasion arises, it is a joyous thing to be a part of — and the HAVEN panel and autograph signing at NYCC was one such beautiful moment in time.

Hints, Clues, and Suggestions for Season 3!

Haven was a late addition to the New York Comic Con schedule--but following the announcement that the show had been renewed for a third season, it's right at home. I was thrilled to see so many dedicated Haven citizens turn out for the Haven panel, which featured cast members Emily Rose, Lucas Bryant, and Eric Balfour alongside writers Jim Dunn, Sam Ernst, and Charles Ardai. The writers were candid and conversational; the cast members--especially Lucas and Eric--were goofy and hysterical. All in all, a good time. But at NYCC, I'm most like Audrey: When I have a job to complete, I'm all about the facts. That's why I've combed through all the bro-snuggles, in-jokes, and brilliant anecdotes to find you any and all Haven season 3 info. Here are the hints, clues, and suggestions for the upcoming season!

After months of speculation and about a million desperate tweets…Syfy and Showcase, just this morning made it official - the supernatural series HAVEN has been given a 13-episode order for the third season, to premiere in 2012.

Haven Renewed for Season 3!!!

Syfy has given the green light to a third season of its supernatural drama Haven.

A Syfy rep confirms to TVLine that the net has ordered 13 new episodes of the series, which is based on the Stephen King novella The Colorado Kid.
Haven averaged a decent 2.5 million viewers during its sophomore season.

The news was first reported by Variety.

Best news of the year!

Review: Haven is Freaking Awesome!

Haven is freaking awesome! [havenpreview] (IMAGE)

Haven is definitely one of SyFy’s blockbuster original series. Although season one gave us a lackluster first half, the writing, acting, and special-effects all improved by season one’s finale. Last year, Carissa and I reviewed the finale and interviewed producer Charles Ardai.

This season, they upped the star power, the budget, the writing, and the action by ten. I really enjoyed Jason Priestly as Audrey’s charmingly troubled boyfriend; former WWE wrestler Adam “Edge” Copeland as the town’s troubled trouble-fixer; and Tahmoh “Helo” Penikett as Duke Crocker’s troubled hating father.

All of the actors kicked it major league. Lucas Bryant portrays Nathan’s vulnerable toughness with his normal, acting excellence. Emily Rose‘s Audrey developed from last season’s scrappy action hero. Season two’s Audrey grows increasingly distant while uncovering her buried secrets. Eric Balfour plays the gangly shyster, Duke Crocker, with 150% believability; he carries his frame as bar-fight ready. THIS season’s Duke I totally believe had a difficult childhood and NEEDS the multiple hidden firearms. I thank the producers for ceasing to use Balfour as eye candy.

Christmas Episode to Air on December 6

The announcement was made during the annual Syfy Digital Press Tour, taking place once again in Orlando, Fla. Earlier in the day, the channel announced it would be premiering all three of its Christmas specials on the same night. Holiday outings of "Eureka," "Haven" and "Warehouse 13" will air Dec. 6 beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Syfy.

"Haven" will do its first-ever holiday episode, where everyone in the New England town thinks it's Christmas, even though it's July. No one seems to notice that it's the wrong time of year except for Emily Rose's character of Audrey Parker. She has to work to try and set things right, especially when people start disappearing into thin air.

All three episodes will take place outside of the shows' continuity, meaning you will see things that you probably wouldn't be expecting after the shows' respective finales this year.

Reviews: Sins of the Fathers

It's that time again, Haven fans: Tonight's episode, "Sins of the Fathers," closes out a truly spectacular second season. In its sophomore outing, Syfy's sleeper hit original series proved its mettle with an uncompromising, evocative, and emotional storyline. Haven season 2 managed its supernatural elements much more elegantly than its predecessor; taken as a complete arc, these twelve episodes show off an incredible amount of character development. As a member of the Haven faithful, I may be among the few, but I know I am among the proud. This is not a show to be missed, and tonight's finale proved we still have more mysteries to solve together in Maine's weirdest little town.

"If she's in love with you, she's gonna want to take risks for you. And we can't have that" ...Garland Wuornos

Looking back over this season of Haven, I can hardly find fault at all. Most of the problems of the first season have been nicely put to rest, and there's an overall feeling of quality running through most of the show's second run.

So what about the season finale?

Lucas Bryant Spills on that Big Kiss and Tonight's Season Finale

There's been big stuff brewing on Syfy's Haven, and life's about to get even more challenging for the show's characters on the season-two cliffhanging finale, said actor Lucas Bryant. While the Canadian actor promises we'll learn some of the character's secrets, don't expect to find out too much.

[Spoilers ahead]

"I mean, you get some great answers, learn some crazy stuff. And we'll see if people think that it's as rug-pulling as the season-one finale was. But ... there are some definite cliffhangers. I mean, it would be nice to say that everything is revealed and they figure out how to end the Troubles and everyone lives happily ever after. But we want to do another 10 seasons," said Bryant.

5 Teases for the Season Finale

  1. Three dead fathers attempt to guide their sons…
  2. Duke may have found the tattooed man…
  3. Someone gives Audrey a ring…
  4. Beware visitors bearing tasers…
  5. Pay close attention, someone in Haven wants to resurrect someone else…
WARNING: There could be spoilers...

Christmas Episode Name...

is "Silent Night". Sam Ernst confirmed on Twitter.

We'll let you know when the air date for this episode is set.

Cannot wait.

Q&A with Emily Rose

This interview has information about the beginning of Season 2, but it's always good to go back and read the good stuff.
This interview is for Australian fans, there, Season 2 premieres on October 6th.

At the end of season one another FBI agent turned up in Haven and announced herself as Audrey Parker. What is going on?!
You know, before we shot the finale last year, I read the script and I freaked out! I called the writer and said, “What does this mean? Are you recasting me? Did I not do a good job? You’re putting another Audrey in!” But the new character is fantastic and it creates some great scenes to have someone who has the same memories as my Audrey and finishes her sentences.

So who on Earth is our Audrey?
Well, all this has led to many questions for her. If you looked back at your life and were like, “Wait a second; all my memories, the school I went to, all my decisions, you’re telling me they are not mine, that’s not me?” That’s scary! She is thinking, “Who am I, if I’m not this person? I’m not even a freaking agent any more? Who does that mean I am?” So we have dropped a huge bomb in Audrey’s front yard, she is in shock, but what she does know is that she can help people. Whoever the hell she is, she knows this one thing about herself, so she does what she does best and she is excited about solving a ‘Trouble’ every week in our one-hour show.

Review: Business As Usual

Did we know that Duke had an iguana before tonight? Does it have a name? What does it eat?

These are things I need to know.

OK, so maybe
not. Especially with there being SO much other stuff going on in "Business as Usual". Stuff with Duke's magic box. It's got a larger variation that contains... wait for it...ninja gear! Guns, blades, slinging stars. The lot! But so what, right? Yeah, that's what I thought. Until Duke pretty much transformed into the hulk and tossed Dwight over the side of his boat! WTF! Love it.

And what might be even BIGGER Haven news, Nathan discovers the location of Lucy Ripley, who apparently has been waiting 27 years for Audrey to return. She spins a web about how in a past life Audrey uncovered the truth of the troubles and found a way to stop them. Then she was erased! The secret lost forever and history allowed to repeat itself until, presumably, the cycle started again with present day Audrey arriving at Haven once again.

What could cause something like the troubles to happen, and who would want to keep it secret? And why?
